Using Automox

The Automox community comes with a bunch of badges that you can earn for various activities, such as posting or liking posts: 40%20AM1169×574 41.1 KB You can get to the badge page by clicking on the burger menu (the three horizontal lines to the left of your avatar, in the upper right corner). The badges you’ve earned will have the green checkmark. The number on each badge indicates how many other people have earned it, and clicking on the badge will list those folks. If there’s any badges you’d like to see added to the community, post your ideas in the replies to this topic!

Here all our engineering teams are named after video games, such as Dr Mario, Zork, Space Invaders and Gauntlet. Do you name your servers or other tech after any themes?

Another way to be notified when new community activity happens is to turn on browser notifications (also called live notifications). These are short pop-up notifications that appear in a corner of your screen and then disappear after a few seconds. To do that, go to your profile preferences and click on Notifications: 20%20AM875×649 47 KB Click on the Enable Notifications button under the Live Notifications header: This is a per browser setting, so if you use the community in multiple browsers or on multiple computers, you’ll need to enable it from each browser.

I dabbled around with it years ago but now I am looking into finding a way to better manage our workstations, all Dells, beyond just AD/GPO. We don’t currently have SCCM either. In the very little bit of research I’ve started doing on the Suite this morning and afternoon, I noticed pretty much everybody else online is integrating it into SCCM and using it THAT way. Is that the standard?

The default homepage is set to the Latest view, which shows you all topics with the newest ones at the top. You can change that in your profile preferences, in case you prefer the Categories view. That view shows you the forums on the left, and a smaller view of recent topics on the right. To switch your homepage, go to your profile Preferences tab and select Interface: 44%20AM806×780 49.3 KB The Default Homepage dropdown lets you select from Latest, Categories, New, Unread or Top. This section also lets you change your theme from dark to light, if you prefer a white background, as well as the text size, language and some other assorted preferences.

If I run a worklet, say the Windows “Password-Settings” worklet, and then I edit the Remediation Code and save the updated Worklet, will the original Evaluation Code trigger the updated remediation code or do I have to change the test in the evaluation code?

If you’re replying to a specific post in a longer discussion thread, you can quote the person you are replying to. That makes it clear which person you are replying to and what question you are answering. There are two ways to quote. The first is to highlight a section of text in the post you are replying to, and then hitting the reply button. The second is to click on the quote button (the word balloon icon) after hitting the reply button. So I have a user who routinely complains about not getting emails from a few of us. Whenever it happens, it’s the same deal… I go into Message Trace to verify an email was sent at all: they are. However, they are being filtered by a rule and sent straight to deleted. So then we look at her rules in Outlook - nothing. … I haven’t had a chance to actually really sit and click around more than what I listed above but I just got a ticket this morning from her complaining about the same thing and if I am able (or one of my minions) to click around a bit, I’m wondering if maybe other mailboxes she has access to could affect this? She has quite a few. The emails being filtered though are being sent to HER… 😐

This community platform doesn’t have pagination and all topics use an infinite scroll interface. This can make navigating longer topics, such as this one, more difficult: Introduce Yourself! To remedy this, the topics have a scroll bar on the side to replace pagination: Click and drag the slider up and down to jump around the topic. As you drag the slider it will show you which post you are jumping to and what date that post was made. To get to the end of the topic, drag the slider all the way to the bottom.

After you’ve selected an avatar, there’s still more to do on your profile page. If you click on the Profile tab on your preferences page: 55%20AM825×599 31 KB then you’ll have several fields you can fill in, including an “About me” section, website, more background images, and your date of birth. The two background images are for your profile background (similar to the banner image on Twitter or Facebook) and your user card, which is the image that pops up when people click on your avatar in a post: 43%20AM738×246 60.1 KB If you fill in your profile all the way you get the Autobiographer badge as a reward.

Currently our main is AHV in Nutanix but we also have a few Hyper-V and XCP-ng hosts, along with one remaining proxmox host that I’m trying to kill off.

By default, your avatar starts off as the first letter of your username. To upload a picture to replace that, click on your avatar in the upper right, then click the gear icon: Once on your profile page, click on the pencil icon next to your Profile Picture and upload your own image. You don’t have to use a photo of yourself if you’re shy - a picture of a pet, a flower or an emoji is totally fine.

We’d like to automate Windows reboots, but we can’t until we can find a way to perform some actions before a reboot. For example, when rebooting a web server it would be nice to notify the load balancer to take the web server out of the pool. While there are some Windows “shutdown” events we can monitor for the problem with them is they typically come after the shutdown process has started. It would be great if we could get a notification (on the machine being rebooted) right before Automox is going to start the reboot process. For example just check for a well known program name and if it’s there call it, if not no harm, and if we want to use this exit point we’ll put a program there. Or what other ways have people found to perform pre-shutdown operations on Windows boxes?
