Tip of the day: Keyboard shortcuts
This community platform has a bunch of keyboard shortcuts that you can use to navigate the site faster. For example, typing g then h will take you back to the homepage. Here’s the full list of keyboard shortcuts: 33%20AM700×706 37.9 KB You can also get to the list from the burger menu (which you can open via the keyboard by typing “=”) and then clicking on Keyboard Shortcuts at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
What Worklets are you using?
We’ve been building up our community library of worklets here: https://community.automox.com/c/worklets and we’d love to hear what worklets you’re using in your environment. Whether they’re ones you’ve written yourself, downloaded off the community, or gotten from support, please let us know what you’re using and how they work for you. And if you do have a worklet you wrote yourself, feel free to share it on the community for others to make use of: What is a Worklet and how do I use or create one? Worklets A worklet can accomplish any task that can be scripted. The Automox platform is based on an open extensible automation architecture that allows IT operations to create any custom task that they can imagine. Automox consumes and automates worklets, powered by PowerShell and Bash scripting, and continuously enforces them across any managed devices. These reusable units of work can be shared with peers and applied across Windows, Linux, and OSX devices. Be
Tip of the day: Two Factor Authentication for your community account
This community platform supports two factor authentication. If you want to enable that, go to your preferences by clicking on your avatar in the upper right and then the gear icon. Once on your profile page, click on Manage Two Factor Authentication: Then click on New Authenticator: From there scan the QR code in the supported MFA app of your choice and away you go! 56%20PM643×520 21.9 KB
Tip of the day: Quoting posts
If you’re replying to a specific post in a longer discussion thread, you can quote the person you are replying to. That makes it clear which person you are replying to and what question you are answering. There are two ways to quote. The first is to highlight a section of text in the post you are replying to, and then hitting the reply button. The second is to click on the quote button (the word balloon icon) after hitting the reply button. Note that you need to click on the reply button directly underneath the post you are quoting, rather than the reply button at the very bottom of the the discussion topic: 24%20PM1515×636 76.5 KB Let me know if you have any problems getting quoting to work!
Weird email issue (365, rules)
So I have a user who routinely complains about not getting emails from a few of us. Whenever it happens, it’s the same deal… I go into Message Trace to verify an email was sent at all: they are. However, they are being filtered by a rule and sent straight to deleted. So then we look at her rules in Outlook - nothing. … I haven’t had a chance to actually really sit and click around more than what I listed above but I just got a ticket this morning from her complaining about the same thing and if I am able (or one of my minions) to click around a bit, I’m wondering if maybe other mailboxes she has access to could affect this? She has quite a few. The emails being filtered though are being sent to HER… 😐
Tip of the day: navigating longer topics
This community platform doesn’t have pagination and all topics use an infinite scroll interface. This can make navigating longer topics, such as this one, more difficult: Introduce Yourself! Water Cooler Hi, I’m Nic, the community manager here at Automox. I’ve managed a bunch of other IT communities, like Webroot, Intuit, LogRhythm, and Spiceworks. Prior to being a community manager I worked as a sysadmin myself. If you’re new to the community, please reply to this post and let us know who you are, where you work, and where you are from. To remedy this, the topics have a scroll bar on the side to replace pagination: Click and drag the slider up and down to jump around the topic. As you drag the slider it will show you which post you are jumping to and what date that post was made. To get to the end of the topic, drag the slider all the way to the bottom.
General product feedback thread - tell us what you think!
Our product team is looking for your feedback about the Automox product. What do you like, what don’t you like, what do you wish we could add to the product? No feedback is too big or too small - whether it’s a button in the wrong place, or a complete redesign of our reporting, let us know!
Tip of the day: filling in the rest of your profile
After you’ve selected an avatar, there’s still more to do on your profile page. If you click on the Profile tab on your preferences page: 55%20AM825×599 31 KB then you’ll have several fields you can fill in, including an “About me” section, website, more background images, and your date of birth. The two background images are for your profile background (similar to the banner image on Twitter or Facebook) and your user card, which is the image that pops up when people click on your avatar in a post: 43%20AM738×246 60.1 KB If you fill in your profile all the way you get the Autobiographer badge as a reward.
Tip of the day: Upload a profile picture
By default, your avatar starts off as the first letter of your username. To upload a picture to replace that, click on your avatar in the upper right, then click the gear icon: Once on your profile page, click on the pencil icon next to your Profile Picture and upload your own image. You don’t have to use a photo of yourself if you’re shy - a picture of a pet, a flower or an emoji is totally fine.
Any way for Automox to call a program before rebooting Windows?
We’d like to automate Windows reboots, but we can’t until we can find a way to perform some actions before a reboot. For example, when rebooting a web server it would be nice to notify the load balancer to take the web server out of the pool. While there are some Windows “shutdown” events we can monitor for the problem with them is they typically come after the shutdown process has started. It would be great if we could get a notification (on the machine being rebooted) right before Automox is going to start the reboot process. For example just check for a well known program name and if it’s there call it, if not no harm, and if we want to use this exit point we’ll put a program there. Or what other ways have people found to perform pre-shutdown operations on Windows boxes?
